At age 17, Mike partnered with his cousin to start a chain of video stores in his hometown of Bullhead City, Arizona. Mike ultimately sold the business after sensing a grim future for the video rental industry.
Soon after, Mike saw an opportunity start a chain of laundromats after not being able to do laundry anywhere in town! After his washing machine broke, he tried to find a laundromat that wasn't FULL. Even at midnight, the machines were packed. Mike promised himself that he would not fix his washing machine until he owned a laundromat. After visiting EVERY laundromat in Las Vegas to study how they worked, approaching investors, and finding some prime locations, Mike opened the doors.
In 2006 Mike opened his first retail furniture store. He expanded in 2011 and 2013, opening two additional stores in the local tri-state area. MattressLand & Furniture has been the premier retail furniture competitor in the Bullhead City area for the past 17 years.
An old guy once told Mike, "If you buy one building every year, in ten years you'll have ten buildings." Since 2001, Mike and his partners have taken that to heart and amassed a portfolio of over 120 commercial investment properties within the self-storage, multifamily, light industrial, commercial storage, flex space, and retail industries. They have specialized in purchasing undervalued properties in need of a TLC, rehabbing the properties, and leasing them to tenants at market value.
Bo got his first taste of entrepreneurship in 1996 when he purchased Kort Distributors. Kort Distributors is a bread distribution business that works closely with the casinos along the Colorado River in Laughlin and fast-food chains in Bullhead City. Bo devoted countless hours to keep the business profitable. After years of dedication, Bo doubled the size of Kort Distributors and hired a professional staff to manage the business.
In 2005, he saw another opportunity on the horizon and purchased Aquatic Pools and Landscaping. Aquatic Pools is a premier pool building company that serves the Bullhead City tri-state area. Since purchasing the company, Bo and his team have 10Xed the company. He now has 12 fulltime construction crews working daily. Bo and his crews produce luxurious, custom residential and commercial pools. Aquatic Pools' work can be seen in hundreds of backyards and even casinos across the tri-state area.
After 25 years of being best friends and talking business, Bo started partnering on real estate deals in Houston, Texas with Mike and his brother DeanO. In 2015, they began reinvesting the profits from their businesses into dilapidated light-industrial buildings.
In 2017 Mike, Bo, and Deano founded Aquatic Construction which is a full service commercial and residential contracting company. That same year the group founded one of their self-storage companies, Mohave Storage, with their operating partner Denny Sixbery. Since 2017 the group has purchased or built over 40 storage complexes.
After leasing industrial buildings to contractors in the Houston area for years, Mike and Bo saw opportunity in the industrial fabrication field. They partnered with a veteran in the field and started Kort Industries in 2018. Since then, it has grown to generate over eight-figures per year.
In 2020, the trio acquired Houston Motorsports, a full-service motorsports dealership. After partnering with Phillip Orange, an expert in the industry, they started with one store and very quickly found success. With Phillip Orange's expertise and dedication, the partners bought three more dealerships in the greater Houston market and just opened their fifth location. The company is on track to generate over nine-figures. In 2023, the group started a warranty company within Houston Motorsports to sell and process the warranties on all of their products.
In July of 2023, Mike, Bo, DeanO, and a strategic partner founded Kort Specialty Services, a field service company that primarily does work with companies such as SpaceX, Exxon-Mobil, and other multi-billion dollar companies. This company is on track to generate over eight-figures in 2024.
Together, Mike & Bo own over $150,000,000 of commercial real estate properties and their enterprise consists of 43 companies.
